Hi, I'm
Theresa.
Before yoga, I was a pediatric nurse.
Something kept pulling at me from underneath, and I followed it.
Before yoga
became my path
I worked in emergency care, surrounded by small bodies in crisis, by fear, by the sharp edges of illness. I loved that work. I loved those children. But something kept pulling at me from underneath.
The deeper I looked, the more questions I found. I wasn't just asking how the body breaks down. I was asking why we wait until it does.
And further than that, something that had nothing to do with medicine:
How do we help people show up more fully for themselves? How do we help them live with more kindness toward their bodies, toward each other, toward life itself?
That question didn't have an answer in a hospital. So I followed it somewhere else.
Into movement. Into breath. Into yoga.
Into movement. Into breath. Into yoga.
As a way of understanding how we live inside ourselves.
THE TEACHERS WHO SHAPED ME One rooted in soul, one in science.
Along the way, I found teachers who changed everything.
SoulEoin Finn of Blissology
taught me that practice is not about achieving but about feeling. That a pose is an invitation to feel more fully in your own body and not a destination.
ScienceDylan Werner - MIA
brought me deeper still into the understanding of how the body actually functions. Through him I discovered Myofascial Integrated Alignment, a methodology that works with the body's fascial system to create intelligent, purposeful movement. Nothing random. Nothing without reason. Every movement in service of the whole.
Today I teach from that same question that led me out of the hospital. My work lives at the intersection of anatomy and intuition, science and soul. I bring the understanding from my nursing background into every class, living the body not as something to push, but something to listen to. And I bring something else too: a deep belief that every person has a right to feel good. In their body. In their life. In their sense of belonging to something larger than themselves.
When people practice with me, something shifts and it's not always what they expected. Yes, the body changes. Movement becomes easier, more intelligent, more free. But what I hear most is something quieter: I feel like I have a place here. I feel like I'm allowed to take up space. I feel joy. (a place where? Here is where? Taking up space where? Within the body?)
That, to me, is what practice is for.
“We move to understand the body. We practice to understand ourselves.”
